Special Political and Decolonization Committee

Since its inception in 1993, the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL) has been charged with overseeing a plethora of issues including indigenous rights, United Nations peacekeeping missions, the repercussions of atomic radiation, the Palestinian refugee crisis, and international cooperation in outer space. SPECPOL is an excellent choice for delegates wishing to engage in passionate debate and create comprehensive, efficacious solutions to significant global issues. Delegates with any amount of experience are highly encouraged to register for PACMUN 2020’s SPECPOL!

Position papers are due on November 7 at 11:59PM PST to your committee email: specpol@pacificmun.com.

Linda Yan

Linda Yan is a sleep-deprived and overextended senior at Bellevue High School and cannot be more excited to be your Director. Linda joined MUN during her freshman year and has since then fallen in love with it. Outside of MUN, she enjoys running cross country and track, painting, reading, and searching for the best boba shops in Seattle. She cannot wait to meet you all at PACMUN 2020!

Trisha Beher

Trisha Beher is a rising junior at Redmond High School and couldn't be more thrilled to serve as your chair for SPECPOL at PACMUN 2020! Trisha started off her MUN career as an eighth-grader, knowing nothing about MUN, but instantly fell in love with how it helped her integrate her political beliefs and public speaking skills into a fast-paced and exhilarating environment of debate. Besides MUN, you can find Trisha participating avidly in speech and debate club, drawing, or playing the piano. She hopes that PACMUN 2020 will be a wonderful opportunity for all sorts of MUN-ers to learn, grow, and make fabulous memories.

Caleb Dempster

Caleb Dempster is a sophomore in the Cambridge Program at Juanita High School and is very excited to be staffing for the first time. He first attended PACMUN in ninth grade and has since become enraptured by the world of MUN and the way it values diplomacy and passion. Outside of MUN, Caleb enjoys both photography and videography, winning CRAZY 8 every time, and watching Netflix. He is very excited to meet you all at PACMUN 2020!

Chantal Zhou

Chantal Zhou is a sophomore at Interlake High School in Bellevue, Washington. She entered the MUN world apprehensively, but now she’s always impatiently waiting for her next conference. Other than MUN, she enjoys browsing the internet for funny memes and creative stories. With the interesting topics for SPECPOL this year, she is looking forward to lively debate and diplomacy in committee. Chantal is incredibly honored to be one of the assistant directors of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee and hopes that you will have an unforgettable experience!
